Concrete Sealing

Serving Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Charlotte, Greensboro, Fayetteville, Winston-Salem, Wilmington, and more.

Whether concrete sealing with a clear resin or solid-color resin, Those Floor Guys use world-class industrial materials.  With many applicable uses, anywhere a concrete slab exists, it can be beneficial to seal that floor.

 Benefits Of Concrete Sealing

The purpose of sealing a concrete slab is four-fold: esthetic, texture, cleanability, and moisture mitigation.  Arguably, added protection could be on the list but protection is only needed when preserving decorative esthetics.  Clear sealing bare concrete is typically for cleanability, not for protecting bare concrete.

Most items on this list are self-explanatory, but many people don’t realize that texture sand can be mixed or broadcast into any resinous coating.  Texture sand comes in various grits or mesh.  Most flooring systems can use a 40-70 mesh texture sand to give it more grip, but texture sand comes in a range of mesh from 16 to 100.

Concrete sealing is also used to prevent moisture from either sinking down into the slab or rising up through the slab.  Some resinous coatings are known as moisture barriers, but even our standard epoxies and sealants have about 60% of the strength of a standard moisture barrier and can be used to correct “light” moisture issues.  These materials are referred to as moisture mitigation.  They are not true moisture barriers but are used to fix mild moisture problems.

The sealing of a concrete slab can be as simple as painting on a clear resin, but all resins will seal concrete.  This means that even a flake, metallic, quarts, or stain system can be used to seal concrete while giving it a decorative look.

Concrete Sealing Done Right

There are two main factors that contribute to a lasting floor: material selection and surface preparation.  Not only do Those Floor Guys use superior materials, but they use proper application techniques, as well.

Those Floor Guys use a dry, diamond grind process to prepare the concrete.  This allows the concrete’s surface to be prepared without introducing any liquids to the concrete.  While some companies may use acid etching or pressure washing, Those Floor Guys know that can cause moisture entrapment within the floor.
